If you want to enrol on any of our courses, you must attend a free assessment / enrolment session.
You will meet our tutor, who will assess your spoken and written English, discuss your learning goals and tell you which class is appropriate for you.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses are specifically designed for individuals whose first language is not English. These courses aim to improve your reading, spoken, listening and written English, making it easier for you to navigate everyday life and work in Jersey.

Our ESOL courses are structured to help you gain qualifications which are highly regarded by employers and can significantly enhance your job prospects.

If you want to live, work and study in an English-speaking country, this programme is for you.

Beginners

A 12-week tutoring course

This course is for students with low level or no English language skills. Students will learn how to communicate about useful topics and gain language experience through speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Day and time for this class : Wednesday 10 am to 12pm

IELTS - Immigration test preparation
IELTS - Immigration test preparation

A1/A2

A 12-week tutoring course that can support the IELTS immigration test.

This course will enable students to understand and frequently use expressions and skills related to areas of their most immediate needs, alongside IELTS. (International English Language Testing System).

You will learn:

  • Immigration test focused learning

  • Phonetics

  • Practical Grammar/ Reading/ Writing

  • Topical vocabulary

If you want to achieve an Indefinite leave to remain visa or Life in the UK test, this course is for you.

Day and time for this class: Tuesdays 2pm to 4pm

B1

This course will enable students to master the basics of English and have practical language skills for everyday use, improve work, study and travel prospects.

  • Understand main points of clear texts, conversations

  • simple, organised texts for reading and listening

  • writing for experiences, events, wishes and aspirations

  • vocabulary for opinions & plans, contrasting ideas

  • grammar, punctuation, further phonetics

If you want to achieve a Skilled Work Visa at B1, this course is for you.

A 12-week tutoring course that can support the IELTS test.

A 24-week tutoring course that prepares you for the IELTS Academic Test

This course will focus on developing English language skills to a level where learners can confidently communicate in a variety of situations, both written and spoken.

  • Focused grammar instruction

  • Enhanced fluency

  • Produce clear, detailed written work such as Emails, Reports and Essays

  • Improved comprehension

A 36-week tutoring course (recommended)

This course will enable learners to gain full autonomy in a native English-speaking country.

  • Understand a wide range of demanding, longer text

  • Practical ways to express ideas fluently and spontaneously

  • Flexible and expressive language practice for social, academic and professional purposes

Conversation Club

Boost your conversation skills by joining one of our small groups

A conversation class to practise speaking and listening skills; to increase learners’ confidence in their use of the English language.

This course will promote and support integration into the community and provide opportunities to progress into employment, volunteering, self-employment and further education and training.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Feel confident using English

  • Practise speaking and listening to socialise and make friends; attend appointments; attend parents’ evenings; support children’s learning; for work/volunteering/education

  • Practise agreeing, disagreeing, giving opinions

  • Say what you want to learn

  • Plan for next steps

These classes will run every day from April 7th to September 15th:

  • Mondays 6 pm to 7 pm – B2/C1 at Curiosity Caffe / Sand Street St. Helier

  • Tuesdays 4.30pm to 5.30pm – B1/B2

  • Wednesdays 4 pm to 5 pm - Beginner/A1

  • Thursdays 10am to 11am – A1/A2

  • Fridays 10 am to 12 pm or 6 pm to 8 pm - Social Interaction
